Origin streaker Wati Holmwood too much for Facebook
THE bare bottom of streaker Wati Holmwood was too much for Facebook, with the social media site pulling it. Does this really "violate community standards"?
THE image of serial streaker Wati Holmwood that was splashed across newspapers and television screens around the country, was pulled from the news.com.au Facebook page last night for violating community standards.
Facebook removed this photo of the State of Origin streaker after it was posted with the update that Holmwood was jailed for three months for getting his junk out on the footy field.
A Facebook spokesperson said the social media giant takes its Statement of Rights and Responsibilities very seriously and reacts quickly to remove reported content that violates our policies.
"The goal of these policies is to strike a very delicate balance between giving people the freedom to express themselves and maintaining a safe and trusted environment," the spokesperson said.
And it seems these incidences are hardly isolated. Last November Facebook deleted a picture of a woman's elbow for being indecent.
In February last year an Australian mum Lucy Allen had her Facebook account deactivated for two days after posting a photo of herself breastfeeding and pumping milk at the same time.
News.com.au reader Meghan Poustie said she was booted off Facebook for posting a close up of a chickenpox on her daughter's chin.
Donna Gillespie had a photo of a candle removed from her Facebook page.
Kerri Stubbs told news.com.au that she was banned for 24 hours from Facebook for posting a photo of a "sexy black man in underwear".
And Wendy Secombe said she was currently banned from liking pages on Facebook because she liked too many.
Meanwhile, the aptly titled Facebook page "The Most Offensive Page Ever" features a photoshopped image of the Shamwow guy, Vince Offer dressed as an Arab holding the world trade centre towers as they burn. No ban there.
And the page "I like big butts and I cannot lie" doesn't seem to have any problem with its images being removed.
Nor does the page "Ultimate Boobs".
