SMARTPHONES are everywhere!
They are now used in 72 per cent of US homes and have become the third most owned electronics item for Americans, a survey shows.
The annual survey by the Consumer Electronics Association found that smartphones trail only televisions, which are in 97 per cent of US households, and DVD players, in 78 per cent.
Meanwhile tablet computers saw a big gain of nine points and are present in 54 per cent of US households, according to the study.
Laptop computers were No.4 on the list at 67 per cent, followed by digital cameras, printers, headphones, desktop computers and tablets. Video game consoles held the number 10 spot.
Among the fast-growing items were fitness trackers, up six points to 11 per cent, and digital media streaming devices, rising five points to 29 per cent, the association said. Basic mobile phones meanwhile were on the decline.
