AUSTRALIANS have become budding film-makers over the past two weeks capturing the hail, floods and lightning that has been hitting NSW and QLD.

The most popular form of capturing storms in action other than photographs are iPhone time-lapse and slow motion videos.

HOW TO USE TIMELAPSE

1. Swipe left on the camera to select Time-lapse mode, tap the Record button and leave it still to record as long as you choose — you can record for up to 30 hours.

2. You could rest it on a window or use a tripod to hold your phone still while your iPhone does all the hard work.

Award-winning Pocket Filmmaker, Jason Van Genderen’s Time-lapse tips:

— Get stability. If you don’t have access to a tripod or mounting bracket you can use a matchbox or empty toilet paper rolls to keep the phone steady as a quick fix tripod.

— Lensing: You can vary the view in your iPhone with lenses that expand the scene for a wider view or crop in to see more detail.
