Apple will unveil its iPhone 15 range and next-generation of smartwatches at 10am on September 12 in California — or 3am September 13 AEST.

Based on the timetable it’s followed in previous years, the iPhone 15 will be available to pre-order in Australia on Friday September 15 or buy in-store on Friday September 22.

The company announced the plans under the tagline ‘Wonderlust’.

The new iPhone 15 range will include two entry-level models and two high-end models.

One of the biggest changes will see the lightning connector charging port on all models move to a USB-C to comply with new European Union regulations.

Apple will also introduce updated AirPods at the event with a USB-C charging port.

The entry-levels models are expected to be the 6.1 inch iPhone 15 and 6.7 inch iPhone 15 Plus, which will be upgraded with some of the features of the iPhone 14’s Pro models such as the A16 chip, Dynamic Island interface and a 48-megapixel rear camera.

The high-end models are typically where Apple unveils its biggest changes and this launch is likely to continue that format, with both the 6.1 inch iPhone 15 Pro and 6.7 inch iPhone 15 Pro Max rumoured to feature a redesigned frame in stronger and lighter titanium rather than stainless steel.

The Pro models are reportedly also set for thinner screen borders, an A17 chip that uses the more advanced 3-nanometer production method and a mute button to replace the current mute switch on the side of the phone.

Camera improvements are also on the cards with Pro models getting a deeper optical zoom enabling users to better focus on distant objects.

Pricing of the new models is yet to be confirmed, although the standard models are expected to retail in line with current iPhone14 prices, which start at A$1399 for the base model and A$1579 for the Plus.

But it has been reported that Apple is planning to increase pricing of the iPhone15 Pro range.

The iPhone 14 Pro current retails from A$1749, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at A$1899.

Apple will also launch its Series 9 Apple Watches and a second-generation version of the high-end Ultra, which it released last year.

The biggest change to the new models will be faster chips, the first time in three years Apple’s smartwatches will get a performance boost.
