Samsung has unveiled three new smartphones and the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a mind-blowing feature that’s grabbing all the attention.

Samsung has unveiled three new smartphones in a bid to dethrone Apple’s iPhone.

The South Korean tech giant’s top model has a mind-blowing 100x “space zoom” feature – and a built-in stylus.

There’s the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy S22 and S22+.

They arrive less than half a year after the debut of the iPhone 13 – a powerhouse flagship smartphone, The Sun reports.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the top-end model in the new line-up.

If any of the new Samsung mobiles were an iPhone rival, this is it.

It’s got a slick and modern design, with a boxy look, four cameras on the back, and eye-catching colour options.

The screen is an enormous 6.8-inch QHD+ AMOLED, bigger even than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

It hits 100% of the DCI-P3 colour range, which means it’ll be vivid and accurate.

There’s also an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner buried beneath the display.

Samsung has fitted a generous 40-megapixel selfie camera to the front.

But the real magic is on the back, where there’s no less than four cameras.

You can get the S22 in four different colours.
You can get the S22 in four different colours.

You’ve got the following:

• 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera (f/2.2, FOV 120 degrees)

• 108-megapixel wide camera (f/1.8, FOV 85 degrees)

• 10-megapixel telephoto camera (f/2.4, FOV 36 degrees)

• 10 megapixel telephoto camera (f/4.9, FOV 11 degrees)

It’ll almost certainly be one of the best mobile camera set-ups on the market.

But it’s also got a neat trick: 100x “Space Zoom”.

This works using 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom using “AI Super Resolution” technology to lessen image deterioration.

It’s not as good as 100x optical zoom, but clever AI trickery can limit how degraded the image appears.

There are four memory and storage options, from 8GB of RAM and 128GB capacity, rising to 12GB and 1TB.

The latter matches the top iPhone model on storage, which also recently gained a 1TB option.

It’s got a large 5,000mAh battery that should easily get you through a full day of use.

And it runs on the latest Google Android 12, which is what you’d expect from a 2022 flagship.

The handset offers 5G internet, and supports Samsung Pay.

The body is IP68 water-resistant, and comes with a built-in stylus – just like the iconic (but now dead) Galaxy Note series.

“The Galaxy Note series is one of our most beloved products,” said Samsung mobile boss TM Roh.

“Thanks to an incredibly loyal fan base that appreciates the power, performance and productivity Note offers.

“We’ve listened to them carefully, and we know that they want it all.

“That’s why we’re integrating the most beloved Note features into more device categories.”

Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+

Samsung also shared two cheaper phones, which forgo some of the Ultra’s pizzazz in exchange for a lower price.

They’re called the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+.

Both models are smaller than the Ultra, coming in at 6.1 inches and 6.6 inches respectively.

They offer smooth 120Hz refresh rates, under-screen fingerprint scanners, and a powerful new 4nm Exynos chip.

Batteries are smaller at 3,700mAh and 4,500mAh, but both should carry you through a day of use.

There’s 8GB of memory and either 128GB or 256GB of storage, which is par for the course at this price point.

The two handsets run on Google’s latest Android 12, and they’re fully water-resistant (rated at IP68).

Samsung has fitted both models with 10-megapixel front cameras.

And there’s a three-camera array on the back, with wide, ultra-wide and telephoto snappers fitted.

The key differentiator here between the phones is screen size.

On performance, they’re almost entirely identical.

One surprising note is that Samsung says it is now rolling out recycled plastics from sea waste for its products.

“[We’re] pioneering new eco-conscious materials that will transform our devices’ footprints,” said Samsung’s Stephanie Choi.

“This starts with discarded fishing nets.

“By the end of this year, Samsung’s use of ocean-bound plastics across out product line-up could help recover more than 50 tons of discarded fishing nets.”
