THE iPhone 6S is hot commodity in China, so much so two sperm banks are using it to attract donors.

Posting on WeChat — the country’s version of Facebook — the sperm banks played on the fact the iPhone 6S will retail for around $1400 in mainland China.

The companies said those willing to donate sperm would receive a payment large enough to help them secure the latest iPhone.

“You don’t need to give up a kidney to raise cash to buy an iPhone 6s as you can get enough money just by donating sperm,” the social media posts read, according to the South China Morning Post.

Promising to pay $1000 to males aged between 22 — 45 for a 40ml donation, the advertisements had attracted 400,000 hits since going live earlier this week.

Head of recruitment for one of the sperm banks, Dr Zhu, said there was nothing wrong with the campaign; it was just a new way for the company to combat declining numbers of people donating.

“I think it is just the starting point is different,” he told Changijang Daily.

The Greater China region has long been important to Apple with it being the company’s second-largest market after the Americas.

In Apple’s Q3 earnings, the company saw a 112 per cent growth in revenue for the region, which includes China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook furthered the importance of the market by saying the newly created “rose gold” iPhone 6S was aimed the Greater China region.

“I hope that Chinese consumers will enjoy the iPhone 6s in the colour pink gold,” he said during an interview with Chinese news outlets.
