Amazon apologises for ‘fingerprints’ on Motorola Razr 5G

Amazon has revealed the reason why it’s having to open new smartphones and change how they’re packaged before shipping.

Amazon has pre-emptively apologised to customers if their new smartphone arrives looking less than new and revealed the strange explanation.

“We apologise if you see fingerprints on your device,” Amazon warns on its listing page for the Motorola Razr 5G, “but we assure you your Razr is brand new”.

“Originally, Razr was meant to be shipped in the unfolded position. However, in order to better protect the display we have folded your Razr – it’s safer, but may not look as elegant as we hoped,” the company said on the listing.

The Motorola Razr 5G is the recently released update to the reimagined new Motorola Razr, a folding smartphone running the Android operating system that was released earlier this year.

The phone was billed as the first clamshell style foldable smartphone but was beset by delays.

It didn’t actually arrive on store shelves in Australia until April, three days after Samsung snuck in and released the Galaxy Z Flip, stealing the Razr’s crown and sinking the boot in by undercutting it $500 on price too.

The phone listed on Amazon Australia is a grey import as the 5G version of the Razr is not yet available for sale in Australian retail outlets.

The Razr is part smartphone, part nostalgia, and part fashion accessory.

Naturally, Motorola made a big deal out of its packaging to showcase this, shipping the phone standing upright on a plinth inside the box.

The company’s efforts to wow their customers when they open the box have now been foiled by Amazon, who is more concerned with not disappointing its customers with a broken device.
