Elly Awesome’s ultimate tech gift guide for Mother’s Day

This device could see the end of the annoying problem of multiple chargers – and at $120, it’s one of the most affordable on the market.

Introducing the HomePod mini (APPLE)

It’s that time of year where we treat our mums, or similar, to a thoughtful gift for Mother’s Day.

In this case, let’s shower them in some awesome tech – curated by yours truly.

The only charger they’ll need – STM Goods Chargetree $119.95

Wireless chargers that charge multiple devices all at once will often run you quite a bit of money. Though I’ve found one that can charge your phone, AirPods, and even an Apple Watch all at once at a decent price point.

The STM Goods Chargetree ($119.95) is great and because of its compact design it doesn’t take up a lot of space and is incredibly convenient considering I am always charging at least two or three devices daily.

Now that I have been using a 3-in-1 charger, I don’t know if I could ever turn back to multiple individual chargers.

My plan is to one day have a few of these scattered throughout the house.

The sound of music – HomePod mini $149

One of my favourite tech gadgets at the moment would have to be the Apple HomePod mini ($149).

It’s a smart speaker that comes in space grey or white and although it’s small, it can produce surprisingly loud, high quality sound.

The device needs to be plugged in to work – so it’s always powered – as it’s made to be placed somewhat permanently in a room of your choosing.

I’ve currently got one in my kitchen which is perfect for playing music while I’m cooking, washing up, or even having music in the background while I’m eating dinner or chilling out in the lounge.

Best of all you can just say “hey Siri” to start playing a song or playlist and even ask about the weather or your calendar events. This is why I also have a second HomePod mini at my office. There, I use it to set myself reminders and run through my daily meeting times. There’s also an intercom where you can send a quick voice message to your other linked HomePods. Often I will intercom my partner to let them know when I’m on my way home from work. On my way out I can also use my voice to ask Siri to turn off my smart lights.

Smart Lighting – Nanoleaf Smart Bulb $39, Nanoleaf Light Strip $99

Speaking of smart lights, my current recommendations would be to pick up the Nanoleaf Essentials E27 Smart bulb ($39) or the Nanoleaf Essentials Light Strip Starter Kit ($99).

I use the bulb in my desk lamp and love placing light strips either behind the TV, around the back of my desk, inconspicuously around kitchen counters or behind the couch.

Both of these products offer over 16 million colour options, so pick any colour and brightness you desire. They even offer smart “circadian lighting” which means your lights can mimic the natural cycles of daylight. For example, gentle and light in the morning, bright white around lunch and a warm yellow/orange glow in the evening.

You can use these lights both with Android and iOS devices and control them with your voice (and because they’re Thread enabled you can also control them with the HomePod mini). These lights might be a little bit pricey but they’re reliable and easy to use.

Smart Watch – Apple Watch Series 6 GPS 40mm $599

The latest and greatest Apple Watch Series 6 GPS 40mm ($599) is the perfect gift for mums and mum-figures. Especially now that they can use their watch with Fitness+, which is Apple’s workout app.

I have, for the first time, finally started doing yoga regularly in the mornings because of Fitness+.

While wearing my Apple Watch I can track my heart rate, the kilojoules I burn and afterwards I’ll check my blood oxygen levels.

I’m now competing in fitness challenges with my friends who wear an Apple Watch, which is very motivating and has been keeping me more active than before.
