APPLE has confirmed its iPad 2 will be available in Australia on Friday.

Officially launched three weeks ago, the iPad 2 is a thinner, lighter faster version of last year's tablet debut from the Cupertino company.

This week's best-selling iPad apps

The Ipad went on to become the second-fastest selling technology device in history, with two million flying off the shelves in its first two months on sale.

Its popularity was quickly overtaken by Microsoft's Kinect add-on for the XBox 360 later last year, however, when eight million units of the motion sensor were sold in 60 days.

Apple fans will endure a much more comfortable line-up for the iPad 2, with Apple stores and retail outlets not making the device available until 5pm.

Pricing plans are as follows:

  • 16GB with Wi-Fi - $579
  • 32GB with Wi-Fi - $689
  • 64GB with Wi-Fi - $799
  • 16GB with Wi-Fi and 3G - $729
  • 32GB with Wi-Fi and 3G - $839
  • 64GB with Wi-Fi and 3G - $949
