Google Photos continues to grow in popularity, here are three features why

GOOGLE PHOTOS has been around for a little while now, but it continues to grow in popularity. Here are three features of that might explain why.

Google's Emoji search

FACEBOOK is great for sharing exciting photos from your life with your friends, but the risk of “oversharing” means people are reluctant with what they post.

Only sharing the best of the best on Facebook means people are often left with phones, tablets and other devices filled with images hidden from the world.

But, what if we told you there was simple way back up all your images into one central location without having to ever worry about running out of storage space.

Imagine if you could also categorises your pictures of the same people or objects into groups, which could be easily located in your archive with text searches.

Well this cloud-based photo management software exists in the form of Google Photos.

While Google Photos might be one of the lesser known features from the tech giant, the fact it boasts more than 200 million monthly users is sign of its growing popularity.

Here are three features of the app you might not have known.

CLEAR UP SPACE ON YOUR DEVICE

One of the best benefits of the photo sharing service is it works with iOS, Android and PC.

Knowing people use their devices for more than just photography, the feature works by collating all of the images and videos into the cloud-based service from the smartphone, tablet or computer of the user.

With all of those pictures and videos securely stored, people are free to delete them from their device to clear valuable space needed for things like podcasts and music.

There are also no worries about running out of storage room with Google Photos, as the service is very liberal with its offerings.

“Back up unlimited photos and videos for free, up to 16MB and 1080P HD,” the Google Photos website reads.

This means people only need access to the internet and they can open their photos whenever they please.

FOR THE UNORGANISED PHOTOGRAPHER

Another impressive feature of Google Photos is the machine learning capabilities, which can recognise specific breeds of animals, over 250,000 landmarks across the globe and even particular people.

The service all recognises more generic things such as “trees”, “beaches” and other familiar objects.

With all of this knowledge, Google pre-categorises your photos with tags making it easy for the user to quickly locate the picture of the “bridge” or “cat” they were looking for.

The app also makes the travelling experience easier by picking out the best photos from the users trip and organising them to be quickly shared.

“Google Photos will suggest a new album for you, curated with just your best shots. It’ll also add maps to show how far you travelled and location pins to remember where you went,” Google wrote.

Captions can also be added to these pictures and albums can be customised at a later date.

THE SOCIAL EXPERIENCE

If you are just looking for a storage space for your pictures, Google Photos is perfect.

The service gives users the opportunity to have their images and albums remain private or they can easily be shared with family and friends.

The fun doesn’t stop there; with Google Photos users can create collaborative albums with their connections.

“People receiving the shared album can join to add their own photos and videos, and also get notifications when new pics are added. You can even save photos and videos from a shared album to your Google Photos library, so that you can hold onto them even if you weren’t the one holding the camera,” Google wrote.

“There’s no setup—select photos, make an album and then send the link off to whomever you’d like. And it works no matter what device your friends and family are using—tablet or laptop, Android or iPhone.”

Making the experience even more interactive is the ability for users to comment on shared albums or individual photos, although there is no “liking” option yet.
