Apple unveils new MacBook Pro
Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro is here, featuring a super-sized screen and overhauling the previous models’ controversial keyboard.
Apple has unveiled its all-new 16-inch MacBook Pro – the “world’s best pro notebook”.
The new model boasts a super-sized retina display screen, up to 80 per cent faster performance, and finally redesigns the laptop’s controversial keyboard.
“Our pro customers tell us they want their next MacBook Pro to have a larger display, blazing-fast performance, the biggest battery possible, the best notebook keyboard ever, awesome speakers and massive amounts of storage, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro delivers all of that and more,” said Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad product marketing, Tom Boger.
The magic keyboard replaces Apple’s “butterfly keyboard”, which in older Pro models has copped criticism for typing-related problems, including characters repeating unexpectedly, failing to appear or keys that feel “sticky” and don’t respond in a consistent manner.

The new design – used on older MacBook Airs and the desktop keyboard – features a refined scissor mechanism, one millimetre of key travel and a stable key feel.
Along with a touch bar and touch ID, it also reintroduces – to the relief of some users – the physical escape key, proof that not all of Apple’s design risks pay off.

The new design also boasts a larger, longer-lasting battery and features the largest retina notebook display ever.
At 16 inches and with a resolution of 3072 x 1920, the display delivers nearly six million pixels and an even more immersive front-of-screen experience for users.
The laptop’s audio capabilities have also been improved with a six-speaker sound system.
A more advanced thermal design enables the system to run at higher power for sustained periods of time without overheating, allowing the notebook to sustain up to 12 more watts during intensive workloads than the previous design.
It also features the latest 6-core and 8-core 9th-generation processors with turbo boost speeds of up to 5.0 GHz – delivering up to 2.1 times faster performance than the quad-core 15-inch MacBook Pro – and a 64GB memory.
PRICING AND AVAILABILITY
Starting at $3799, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is available today through the Apple website and the Apple Store app.
It’s set to land in US stores later this week and will arrive in Australian stores soon.
