AN Aussie app developer has just scored the opportunity of a lifetime with his wildly popular camera app, SnappyCam, being acquired for an undisclosed sum by Apple.

The app, created by John Papandriopoulos who single-handedly runs his company SnappyLabs, gained popularity due to its ability to take rapid fire photos at 20-30 frames per second in full resolution, significantly quicker than Apple's native app which can only capture 10 frames per second.

It propelled to number one in the Australian App Store before mysteriously being taken down a few days ago, which raised suspicion of a possible acquisition.

In a statement to website Recode, an Apple spokesman finally confirmed it bought the Aussie start-up but wouldn't give the exact details about the acquisition, saying, "Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans."

It's no surprise that the Melbourne man and his camera breakthroughs were acquired by Apple, but whether or not it will plan to implement it in the native iPhone camera app or just re-upload the app is yet to be known.
