Forget selfies, Facebook introduces profile videos to its social network

YOU can finally wink at everyone who visits your Facebook profile as the social network introduces profile videos and ditches photos.

SELFIES are no longer good enough for Facebook.

The social media giant now wants you to upload a video of yourself for your friends to watch ... and watch ... and watch.

Facebook is rolling out “profile videos” to its mobile app in what it calls “an obvious evolution” for the social network.

The short videos, up to seven seconds in length, will play on repeat like an animated gif for anyone who visits your Facebook profile page.

“Profile videos will let show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a new dimension to your profile,” the company said in an official announcement.

Just like Facebook’s new automatically playing video mode, profile videos are likely to use more mobile data to load, however they will first be tested with Apple iOS users in California and the United Kingdom before being rolled out worldwide.

Other changes to Facebook’s mobile apps include the ability to set a temporary profile picture — for a birthday, holiday or event, for example — that times out after a period set by the user, and more ways to customise what others see at the top of your mobile Facebook profile, from biographical details to featured photographs.
