An urgent nationwide recall has been issued for a popular children’s item due to serious health and safety concerns.

A NATIONWIDE recall has been issued for Smiggle’s Fun Character Slapband Watch with fears children could die due to a defect with the product.

Product Safety Australia made the announcement on Friday after the watch had been on sale for the first two months of 2022 nationally in Smiggle stores and online.

There are fears the watch’s button battery compartment is not adequately secured and the button battery is accessible. If a child eats the battery they could suffer a serious illness or die from severe internal burns, while it could also be a choking hazard.

Anyone who has the watch is advised to immediately stop using it and put it out of reach from children. Product Safety Australia said the watch can be returned to Smiggle for a full refund.
