Sydneysiders are being warned to keep their raincoats and umbrellas on standby as up to a week of rain bears down on NSW.

Residents along the state’s east coast - particularly around the Illawarra region - can expect gloomy weather right through to the weekend, the Bureau of Meteorology predicts.

Following the trend of the last weekend, rainfall totals are expected to continue in “very little amounts”, according to the Bureau.

“We’re looking at 10 to 30mm again today, if not continuing with very low numbers through Wednesday,” the Bureau’s Miriam Bradbury said.

Rain spread through northern NSW is expected to be patchy, with some dry periods expected later in the week.

Sydney looks set to be a washout, with rain to pummell the harbour city from Monday to Sunday.

The wet weather is likely to be largely confined to NSW, with Australians elsewhere looking at a week of dry and mostly clear conditions.

“We’re looking at settled, stable weather for the next few days, with fairly warm and pleasant autumn weather,” Ms Bradbury said.

Those in Brisbane can anticipate temperatures in the mid- to high 20s, going up to low 30 degrees far out.

Shower activity may develop across inland Queensland on Tuesday or Wednesday, but the rainfall totals may only come up to 5mm.

Perth is keeping warm with sunny days with temperatures at the mid to high 20s, with light winds all week.

Monday looks to be sunny with light winds in Adelaide, but temperatures are expected to drop from the mid 20s to cusp later in the week, with cloudy skies and a chance of showers.

Sunny skies and light winds are in the cards for Melbourne residents, with temperatures at low to mid 20C, with cloudy skies expected for the rest of the week.

However, it may be a touch cooler for Gippsland for the rest of the day.

Hobart will maintain temperatures in the mid to high 10s, but is expected to drop a further 5C later in the week.

Waking up to sunny skies and light winds, Darwin locals can stay toasty as temperatures fall within the mid 20s and rise up to mid 30s later in the day.

Canberra will go up to the top of 20C, and dangle between the mid to high teens for the rest of the week.

“There’s nothing of concern, it might be damp in a few areas but not too high rain,” she said.
