The moment SES heroes save a young woman from Sydney floodwaters

Dramatic footage has shown the moment SES officers saved a young woman stuck in raging flood waters.

A woman has been dramatically saved by brave SES crews after becoming stuck in raging flood waters while a man has died after his kayak capsized in Sydney’s inner west on Sunday afternoon.

Footage of the dramatic rescue in southwestern Sydney shows the woman shaking after being helped to shore by rescuers as emergency services have been inundated with requests for help amid torrential rain and flash flooding across Sydney.

The woman had to be rescued after she was left clinging to a tree as flood waters threatened to wash her away at Holsworthy.

One SES officer braved flood waters to swim out to the woman, before she was escorted back to shore by boat.

The woman was visibly shaking as she was helped to shore and into a waiting ambulance.

Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon, a man drowned after his kayak capsized at Abbotsford.

Emergency crews were called to the Parramatta River about 2.45pm after a man was seen struggling in waters.

A member of the public attempted to come to his aid however they were not able to save him and he died at the scene.

Police said the man was yet to be identified.

The State Emergency Service has been inundated with requests for help after an east coast low formed off the NSW Mid North Coast, dumping huge amounts of rain and sparking severe weather warnings from Newcastle to Batemans Bay.

Emergency Services Minister Steph Cooke on Sunday warned about the dangers of flash flooding, riverine flooding and coastal erosion after heavy downpours.

On Sunday evening, there emergency services had carried out 83 flood rescues over the previous 24 hours.

The Bureau of Meteorology has warned that the east coast low is expected to linger until Tuesday, bringing more rain and damaging winds.

The BOM has warned that heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding across Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Illawarra, Hunter and Central Coast.

The Hawkesbury and Nepean Rivers reached major flood levels over the weekend with the Warragamba Dam reaching capacity well ahead of predictions.

There has been major flooding of the Nepean river at Menangle and Wallacia and moderate flooding at Camden.

On the Hawkesbury and Lower Nepean, there has been major flooding at North Richmond, as well as moderate and minor flooding at Penrith, Windsor and Sackville.

The BOM has said that the Colo River may flood on Sunday night.

The Georges River has also flooded at Liverpool and Milperra, near where the woman had to be rescued at Holsworthy, and there has been minor flooding at Picnic Point.
