Park goers slammed after leaving sea of plastic ‘gender reveal’ confetti behind
Parkgoers thought to be holding a gender reveal party have been slammed for their ‘selfish’ behaviour after a photo emerged of the site following the celebrations.
Thoughtless revellers who held a party in a public park have been ruthlessly slammed after leaving a horrible mess in their wake.
A sizeable field of plastic blue confetti was left behind following a celebration, thought to be a gender reveal, held at Elkington Park Balmain, in Sydney’s inner west, on Saturday.
It appeared no effort had been made to even attempt cleaning up the debris, which featured in a photo shared to Reddit Saturday evening with the title, “trash that glitters is still trash”.
The scene was particularly disturbing given the hundreds of small plastic pieces had been littered right next to the Parramatta River.
Hundreds were fast to condemn the behaviour, with those responsible being labelled “selfish” and “grubby”.
“How gross! There’s no excuse for this disgusting behaviour. Why not just do a gender reveal cake if you must,” one respondent wrote.
“Disgusting! I hate litter bugs,” another said.
Someone else described the scene “absolutely infuriating”.
“There’s already so much litter everywhere. How sh***y must you be to do this,” they wrote.
“It’s a real shame that the mess got left behind at such a beautiful spot,” another comment read.
Several others expressed deep concern over the plastic inevitably making its way into the water, where it was likely to cause harm to marine life.
“For f*** sake, its like it was purposely made to look like food for marine life,” one wrote, with another adding it would go “straight into the ocean if we get a heavy rain”.
“Would it really have been that hard to just pick this up? Congrats little boy, your parents don’t care about the planet they’re putting you on,” another said.
