First snowflakes of 2016

AUSTRALIA, the winter’s first significant bit of snow has arrived.

The Bureau of Meteorology had forecast an 80 per cent chance of rain or snow in the NSW alpine region overnight and they weren’t wrong, much to the surprise of some.

“Thredbo’s first snow for 2016. Must hand it to the bureau, I didn’t think it would snow last night,” wrote one Thredbo resident on Twitter.

Thredbo resort staff were camped out on top of the Mount Kosciuszko in anticipation of the snowfall as temperatures were tipped to drop to minus-one degree bringing in snow showers early this morning.

It’s a sight that will surely excite skiers and snowboarders alike, just a month out from Thredbo’s season officially kicking off.
