Australian diver Rhiannan Iffland wins cliff diving event in Japan
FANCY taking the plunge off a 21.5m cliff? Likely not, but the backdrop to this diving event is nothing short of breathtaking.
WE’VE all watched the 10 metre diving platform event during the Olympics and thought, “not a chance”.
These brave divers were pictured taking an incredible 21.5m dive off the steep Sandanbecki cliffs of Shirahama, Japan as part of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series of 2016.
Australian diver Rhiannan Iffland, 25, took out the women’s event, and is currently sitting in first place on the leaderboard.
Earlier this year Iffland described how she felt with each dive, telling the Weekend Australian: “Every time I get to the end of the platform and look down I’m a little bit scared.
“But I don’t want to stand there and let negative thoughts in my head, so I just count ‘One, two, three …’ Then go.”
