A SELFIE video has emerged capturing Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung erupting in the background.

The eruption was captured by Ryoe Simanjuntak on June 25 in Kabanjahe, Indonesia.

The video shows ash being spewed into the air and covering the sky. Upon panning down, the ash is seen to be covering what appears to be a small village in the vicinity of the volcano.

The disaster saw 10,000 residents forced out of their homes and covered nearby towns in thick volcanic ash. According to The Mirror, residents are wearing protective face masks to avoid inhaling the smoke.

The volcano stands 2460 metres high and has reportedly been spewing molten lava. Since its eruption in August 2010 Mount Sinabung has been extremely volatile, after being inactive for over 400 years prior.
