Month’s-worth of rain forecast for parts of Qld as wintry blast sweeps southeast states
One state is set to be smashed with at least a month’s-worth of rain amid a wintry blast sweeping across Australia’s southeast.
A wintry blast is forecast to sweep across large swathes of southeast Australia, with one state tipped to receive at least a month’s-worth of rain.
Parts of central and southeast Queensland could be smashed by up to 50mm of rain through Wednesday amid a cold front moving across the state.
The upper-level cut-off low pressure system entered the Sunshine State on Sunday and will continue until Tuesday, according to Weatherzone.
The wet weather comes as much of the country’s south braces for continued cold conditions off the back of fresh showers.
Sydney woke to showers on Monday with the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) reporting a 90 per cent chance of up to 10mm of rain throughout the day.
It comes after Sydney recorded one of its driest ever starts to winter, with just 22mm of rain reported in the first six weeks of the season.
Throughout the rest of the week, conditions are expect to dry out once again before reaching maximum temperatures of about 20C.
Further south, a cold front sweeping across South Australia will cause the mercury to plummet there over the coming week.
Adelaide is forecast to dip to as low as 6C on Tuesday, reaching just 17C towards the end of the week.
Canberra shivered through just -3.5C on Monday morning, with temperatures as low as -2C forecast throughout the week.
The nation’s capital is forecast to reach just 16c the rest of the week.
Melbourne will reach 16C with mostly dry conditions, while Hobart will also reach 16C with rain forecast on Friday.
Brisbane is expected to skirt much of the rain sweeping over the state’s southeast, and will reach temperatures of 22C throughout the week.
Darwin is also excepted to stay dry and hot with temperatures of 28C, while Perth is smattered by rains of up to 20mm on Wednesday.
The Western Australian capital is forecast to receive rain throughout the week, with the mercury reaching just 17C.
