Magnitude 4.3 earthquake rocks residents of Cairns

An earthquake off the coast of Australia shook the residents of one city.

3.1 magnitude earthquake hits northern NSW

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake has been felt off the coast of Queensland.

The earthquake struck at about 10pm on Wednesday and has been felt 130km off the coast of Cairns according to Geosciences Australia.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Service have had no reports of injuries or damage.

It has been felt by multiple people living near the coast, although it’s impact was fairly minimal compared to the 3.8 magnitude quake that struck 35km north-west of the Melbourne CBD on May 28.

It was the largest earthquake within 40km of the capital city in more than 120 years, according to seismologist Adam Pascale.

An earthquake with a magnitude 4.5 was reported in 1902.
