House on Sydney’s Hawkesbury River crumbles away due to floods
One image reveals the devastation caused by a major landslide in a community smashed by floodwaters and wild weather.
A house along the NSW Hawkesbury River has been damaged by a landslip.
The incident unfolded at Richmond Lowlands in Sydney’s north west about midday, an SES spokeswoman said.
The house was unoccupied at the time and there were no reports of injuries.
“It was a landslip because the riverbank had fallen in,” the spokeswoman said.
“One house, which was unoccupied at the time, part of it fell into the landslip.
“The SES’s job was to secure the area and barricade it in.”
The NSW SES has responded to more than 9,258 requests for help, including 463 flood rescues, since floods began a fortnight ago.
Over the last few days, the agency’s damage assessments teams have conducted 7,234 assessments in the Hunter and Hawkesbury areas.
The weather bureau said on Sunday flooding had eased across the Hawkesbury River, with minor flooding no longer occurring.
It comes as a cold front is forecast to develop on Tuesday across NSW, with frost on its way.
The weather bureau is warning that rain and windy conditions may reinvigorate across eastern NSW on Wednesday.
Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and take care in these areas, as sodden soils could cause trees to topple more easily, possibly impacting roads and transport.
