Hospital evacuated as bushfire burns through WA town
Family members of patients received late-night calls alerting them to the emergency as a bushfire threatened nearby.
A hospital in regional Western Australia was evacuated overnight as a bushfire threatened the safety of patients.
The order to evacuate the Corrigin Health Service came about 11pm on Tuesday as the fire moved closer to the property.
Staff and patients were taken to an evacuation site, with impacted families contacted to inform them that their loved ones were safe despite the danger.
The facility will remain closed until further notice and any locals requiring medical assistance are urged to present to Narembeen Health Service instead.
The warning has since been downgraded as of Wednesday morning, with no threat to lives or homes at the current time.
The evacuation centre at Quairading Community Building has also closed.
“Although there is no immediate danger, you need to be aware and keep up-to-date in case the situation changes,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said.
Residents are being urged to stay alert and monitor their surroundings.
