Entire west coast of Australia set for a soaking while the east coast is blessed with clear blue skies

Two more cold fronts are set to sweep through Australia this weekend in the space of a single day. Best rug up if you’re in these areas.

Sky Weather meteorologist Alison Osborne warned that there would be icy mornings for many this weekend.

“Now we had another cold front cross the southwest during Friday afternoon but there is definitely more on the way,” she said in a weather forecast this morning.

“We have another cold front crossing in the early hours of Sunday morning and then another one overnight on Sunday into Monday.”

Ms Osborne warned most states not to put away the umbrella — or the blankets — over the next few days.

“There is more rain on the way and some of it will be heavy especially through to the end of the weekend.”

A lot of this miserable weather is brought on by cold fronts from the south.

“The (first) cold front is set to cross the south west on Sunday morning, delivering another burst of showers and also storms,” the Sky Weather host said.

“The last front will be significantly stronger in terms of winds as well as the amount of rain.”

Western Australia is especially set to be hit by the cold weather.

“Don’t put that umbrella away just yet if you live in the south west division of WA,” Ms Osborne cautioned.

“North-westerly winds will continue from Carnarvon all the way down towards Hopetoun.”

On Sunday, thanks to the first cold front, there will be continued shower activity and potentially some afternoon thunderstorms.

“We’re expecting falls exceeding 80mm across parts of the west coast including Bunbury, Rockingham and Mandaruh, could reach Perth as well,” Ms Osborne went on.

“We do expect some meaningful rain start to push inland, up to 30mm could fall by the end of Monday across parts of the WA wheatbelt.

“Some good news for that drought-stricken area.”

Some light showers are coming to the northern half of the coast and adjacent ranges, more frequent along the coastal fringes of Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers.

The west of NSW is luckier, with a dry and sunny weekend in the works.

Light winds and daytime temperatures will be near average in the east but below average in the west, with a top of 14 in Broken Hill.

Across the southeast a broad area of high pressure will remain slow moving to near stationary.

“It (the high pressure system) is bringing clear skies and light winds,” Ms Osborne confirmed for those areas.

They can expect a similar “frost potential” over the next few days, according to Ms Osborne.

“Temperatures (are) below zero in southern parts of QLD over the weekend,” Sky Weather’s Ms Osborne said.

However, during the daytime temperatures will warm up significantly, with highs of 23 in Brisbane and up to 31 in Weipa predicted.

“We’re expecting to see a dry and mostly sunny day for inland regions,” she went on.

“There is the chance for showers, most likely around exposed coastal areas in the southeast of the state.”

However it’s a bit warmer in the state’s northernmost parts, with temperatures of 32 in Darwin and 34 in Kalumburu.
