Brisbane man sick of drivers parking across his driveway

FED UP with cars parked across his driveway, a Brisbane man asks people to move. In return, they swear at him and threaten to burn down his house.

A BRISBANE man has been told to “f*** off” by motorists after he asked them not to park across his driveway.

Will Flage-Yeats has lived in Gray Ave, Corinda since 2001, but said the problem with drivers parking across his driveway was increasing.

“It’s just become 10 times worse to the point where I can’t get in my driveway,” he said.

“I brought my (newborn) son home and I actually had to get out of my car and tell the driver of a car to move out of my driveway so I could get into my house.”

Mr Flage-Yeats said he had also been abused by people after he asked them to move their illegally parked car.

“People have told me to f*** off. All the usual stuff,” he said.

And when he warned one woman she could be fined for parking in a no parking zone across the road, her response was extreme.

“We’ve actually had a woman threaten to burn down our house. I’d like council to do more because it’s just getting beyond a joke.”

With Corinda State High School nearby, Mr Flage-Yeats said the problem was worst during school hours.

“Towards the end of the year when they’ve got a school function happening, it’s horrible,” he said.

A council spokesman said council undertakes a comprehensive school zone enforcement program every school term which targets dangerous and illegal parking in areas that have been raised by parents, residents and school communities.

“As part of this program, council patrols focus on a number of school zones and surrounding streets to monitor illegal parking which not only creates a serious safety risk for students and families, but is a significant source of frustration for neighbouring residents wanting to access their property,” he said.

“Corinda State High School was a targeted enforcement site in term one this year. Additional patrols were also undertaken during term two.”

Since the beginning of the year, council has received two complaints relating to illegal parking on Gray Ave and has issued one infringement notice.

They said council would conduct further patrols of the area after a complaint about cars blocking driveways this month.

“Council has zero tolerance for illegal parking, and urges residents to report any instances to council on 3403 8888.”
