FIRST Apple put its digital assistant Siri in your hand, now the technology giant could be set to let Siri move into your home and take over your life.

Following the lead of rivals Amazon and Google, Apple is reportedly working on its “next big thing” — a speaker with the home powered by Siri that listens to your every word and will do everything from book an Uber and turn off the iron to read you a bedtime story.

The Information reports Apple is set to launch the Siri speaker and will open up the digital assistant so that app developers will be able to create programs designed for home automation.

Apple has been working on its HomeKit platform for several years, seeing the potential in an app-controlled home, and the report today says Apple has been secretly working on its own voice-controlled Siri-powered speaker since before the launch of Amazon Echo.

But it is late to the party with a digital assistant home manager, with Amazon Echo leading the way and Google following suit with the announcement last week of Google Home.

Apple could announced the speaker in a few weeks at WWDC, Apple’s annual conference for developers which kicks off on June 13 in San Francisco.

By opening up Siri to app developers, the digital assistant will go beyond its current features which are typically checking weather, making a phone call, dictating a text or opening an app.
