Apple to raise prices in Australian app store, blames falling dollar

APPLE is set to raise prices in the Australian app store. But amid the bad news there is also a way to snag a bargain.

AUSTRALIAN iPhone users are set to pay more for their apps with Apple about to hit them with a price hike because of the falling dollar.

iClarified has published the statement from Apple to app developers announcing the price hike for the Australian, Indonesia and Swedish markets.

In the statement, Apple cites foreign exchange rates as the reason for the change.

The price rise is set to happen within the next 36 hours.

Apps that currently cost $1.29 will rise to $1.49.

iPhone and iPad users who have opted for automatic subscriptions to update their apps will receive an email from Apple warning them of the price rise.

It’s not all bad news for Aussie app users. 9-to-5Mac says Apple plans to introduce a low-price tier that will enable app developers to charge 99 cents for their apps. Previously that cut-price tier of paid apps was only available in “emerging markets”.
