Apple announces an event to ‘spring forward’ ahead of Apple Watch release

APPLE has announced a March 9 event in San Francisco in which it is expected to launch the much anticipated Apple Watch — and possibly something else.

APPLE has announced a March 9 event in San Francisco in which it is expected to launch the Apple Watch.

As is standard practice for Apple, the invitations that have been sent out to American press overnight is light on detail, except to say “spring forward”.

But the timing of the event, to be held in the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts Theatre in San Francisco early morning Wednesday, March 10 Australian eastern daylight savings time, means this will be about the Apple Watch — and possibly something else.

While Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the watch late last year, there are many questions that have still yet to be answered.

For Australians, the big questions are how much and when can they have one but there are wider questions than that.

Recent reports hint that Apple has been improving the waterproofing of the watch which initially was described as suitable for wearing in the rain but not in the shower.

The event is also likely to show off more ways people will be able to use their watch plus some of the apps that have been developed for it.

“Spring Forward” is code for stepping into a new era, which is what Apple hopes to do with its first all-new product since the launch of the iPad in 2010.

But it also relates to the previous day, where Americans will be winding their clocks forward one hour.

The event might not just be about the Apple Watch. Some Apple tipsters believe Tim Cook might also unveil a 12-inch iPad Pro pitched as the ultimate work tablet, a revamped Apple TV or a MacBook Pro with a Retina display.
