Winter Olympics: Fans lose it at hilarious ‘long lost brothers’ lookalikes

Sports fans couldn’t believe the hilarious physical resemblance between a Winter Olympics curling star and a Formula 1 driver.

Valtteri Bottas moves to Alfa Romeo for 2022

Who knew Formula One driver Valtteri Bottas was also an Olympic curler?

Sports fans would have been excused for thinking that when they spotted a competitor at the Winter Olympics with an awfully close resemblance to the Finn.

Earlier this week the Twitter account of CBC, Canada’s Olympic broadcaster, shared an image of Bottas side-by-side with American curler Matt Hamilton, who is competing in Beijing at the moment.

And it’s fair to say Bottas is a dead ringer for Hamilton. He just needs to develop a thicker moustache and grow out some luscious looks and the duo will be complete doppelgangers.

The post has received more than 14,000 likes on Twitter and even caught the attention of Bottas and Hamilton, who played along, claiming they had finally found their long lost sibling.

Bottas replied to CBC’s post: “Bro!”, to which Hamilton then responded: “I knew I had a brother!”.

Fans found the resemblance between the two athletes hilarious, with some even cheekily complimenting Bottas on taking up a new sport during the F1 off-season.

Bosnian sports journalist Haris Mrkonja tweeted, tongue-in-cheek: “While waiting for the new #F1 season to start, Valtteri Bottas managed to play in the #WinterOlympics

“Congrats @ValtteriBottas on your huge success as an Olympian as well.”

Hamilton is a star of curling, having won the gold medal in the teams event back at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.

The American team is looking to defend its title in Beijing and is currently battling it out in the round robin stage.

As for Bottas, he is gearing up for the F1 season with a new team.

The 32-year-old will be driving for Alfa Romeo after he was moved on by Mercedes following five successful seasons in which he helped the team win the constructors championship every year.

But he will face a new challenge in 2022 at Alfa Romeo after Mercedes decided to replace Bottas with young gun George Russell, who will partner seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes garage.
