DEANNA Lockett secured what will likely be the last top 10 performance for Australia at the Sochi Winter Olympics after a ninth-placed finish in the women's 1000m short track speed skating event.

Lockett raced in the quarter-finals of her event and was plucky in coming third in her heat.

Only the top two went through to the semi-final.

But her fast time ensured she was the best of those not to progress.
