AUSTRALIA made the podium for underperforming Winter Olympics teams in Sochi, international media analysis suggests.

AUSTRALIA was the third-worst performed Winter Olympics country in Sochi, international media analysis suggests.

US website Deadspin rated our team as reaching the podium for underperformance among the medal-winning nations, using a weighted medal system and the number of competing athletes as a guide to determine which countries stunk it up the most.

Only Kazakhstan and Slovakia fared worse than our team, while Norway led the way with an impressive ratio of 13.6 weighted medals per 100 athletes and host country Russia not far behind.

The mighty USA finished mid-table, with its enormous team delivering only 6.7 weighted medals per hundred competitors. Australia finished with 2.1.
