Aussie champion Belle Brockhoff has reassured fans she is “still smiling” after hard fall during the mixed team snowboard cross event at the Winter Olympics.

Brockhoff had been carried away from the Genting Snow Park venue and taken to a Chinese hospital on Sunday, but was later cleared of any serious injury.

The 29-year-old took to social media on Monday afternoon to give her thanks for everyone’s support, and explain her online absence had been to “rest her head”.

“I had a crash in the mixed teams event where I hit my head and felt pain down my neck,” she wrote.

“I was taken to get a MRI and CT scans to make sure my neck/spine wasn’t damaged. I’ve been taking it easy since the all clear.

“It always feels so dramatic being sled off haha but better to be cautious of those things.”

The accident came during a nightmare quarter-final for Australia as both Aussie teams crashed out to miss out on a spot in the semi-finals. Neither Aussie team finished the race.

Brockhoff took a tumble when she took off from a large jump feature and landed on the back of a competitor’s board.

The event had to be delayed as she received medical attention before she was loaded onto the back of the stretcher.

Aussie Josie Baff also took a tough fall, but was able to make it to the bottom of the run and was in good spirits when interviewed by Channel 7 after the race.

In her message, Brockhoff added she was disappointed to not reach her goals of a medal but said the goal of learning every race and every lap had been consistently hit.

“As always, I’ll reflect, set more goals from these games and keep learning as much as I can,” she wrote.

“If my goals aren’t hit, then I break them down into smaller ones until I do.

“I back myself. I can be better and I will be. I choose to be.”

Brockhoff finished off saying she would be resting up and cheering on the rest of the Aussies in the Games.

After the event, speaking to Channel 7, Brockhoff’s teammate Cameron Bolton said he was bitterly disappointed about the snowboard cross squad’s results in Beijing.

“As a result, for sure it’s disappointing. Really there were no limits today for us. We could have been super high up there and really in contention. It’s really disappointing,” he said.

“It’s one of those things, right. I don’t think the Olympics could have gone much worse for the Australian border cross team to be honest.

“Belle did well fighting for fourth. Everything else that could have gone wrong went wrong.”
