Rising Australian star Jack Jenkins has been given a UFC contract after a dominant third round TKO victory over Freddy Emiliano Linares in the Contender Series on Wednesday (AEST).

The Aussie is known for his savage kicks that can break the legs of opponents, but he surprisingly spent most of the fight on the ground grappling.

Jenkins took control of the fight straight away and secured a take-down in the first round.

Across several rounds Jenkins mounted his opponent, slammed his knees into Linares’ ribs and opened a gash above his eyebrow with some brutal elbows to his head.

Linares’ blood was soon dripping all over the canvas in the octagon as Jenkins pounded the Ecuadorean to a pulp.

Jenkins even managed to overcome a minor equipment mishap when his protective cup quickly came loose.

He kept on hammering Linares and the referee eventually stepped in and stopped the fight at the end of the third round.

MMA fans were blown away by Jenkins’ performance and said it would only be a matter of time until he fights in UFC.

UFC boss Dana White called Jenkins a “one-trick pony” and was surprised he didn’t show off more of his kickboxing skills. But he saw enough promise to hand the Aussie a UFC contract.

“My thing with Jack Jenkins tonight is he looked like a one-trick pony,” White said.

“He kept going to the ground. He absolutely dominated, but the boys were telling me that he’s actually a great kickboxer. I didn’t see any of that tonight.

That is a lot of blood on the canvas.

“He’s (Jenkins) on a seven-fight win streak, he did get the finish tonight.

“It’s the last show of the year. On a night that I might not have taken him, I’m definitely taking him tonight. Congrats, Jack, and show me some more kickboxing!”

Jenkins agreed with White’s criticism but said he was happy he to get the victory using a different skill.

“I said all week this was just the start for me, I did what I needed to do to get the start and now I’m really going to ramp it up and show everybody what I can do,” Jenkins said.”

“I just noticed early he was overeager with that double jab.

“Somebody gets overeager with that double jab and they’re up tall, they’re so easy for that front leg tap. So I took that and wanted to go to work.

“He played real defensive, wasn’t trying to get up so I had to just try and get my work done from the guard. I’m happy with that, wanted to show that I’ve got a fully rounded skill-set. I’m ready to go.”
