UFC star Colby Covington makes ‘revolting’ comment about female fighter

UFC star Polyana Viana was disgusted by sexual comments made about her by controversial fighter Colby Covington on an Australian podcast.

UFC star's disgusting reference to female fighter

For the second time this year the UFC has a problem with one of its male fighters speaking in a degrading, sexual manner about one of its female stars.

And both times there’s been an Australian link.

In January, UFC fighter Casey Kenney was asked on a podcast if he would “smash” women’s featherweight title challenger Megan Anderson, who hails from the Gold Coast.

“Probably not, man,” Kenney said, laughing.

“She’s not too … well, I mean, if it came down to it, and it was like 5am, 4, she’s a 5am-er, 4am-er. Just us two hanging out, like, ‘F*** it, let’s do it.’”

Anderson voiced her disappointment at the “disgusting” remarks, even indicating she was uncomfortable sharing a fight card with the 29-year-old.

“I guess MMA is a line of work where you can publicly talk about whether you’d have sex with a co-worker in an utterly degrading way and face zero consequences.” Anderson tweeted.

Kenney did apologise but didn’t appear to face any repercussions from his UFC bosses.

Two months later it’s happened again, this time during an interview with controversial welterweight fighter Colby Covington during an appearance on Australian UFC podcast Submission Radio.

Covington, who hasn’t fought since defeating Tyson Woodley last September, was asked a question about whether the UFC had offered him a fight against Leon Edwards earlier this month.

“There wasn’t much talks,” Covington said. “I was busy, you know ... balls deep in Polyana Viana. So get to me off the couch with three weeks notice to fight some Leon Scott guy, it was going to be a price tag. I wanted a little bit more than what was in my contract.”

The 33-year-old, who has made his name as a MAGA hat-wearing, LeBron James-hating super villain, appears to have been referencing recent rumours he and Viana were dating.

The 28-year-old Brazilian, who has saved her UFC career after a three-fight losing streak with wins against Emily Whitmire and Mallory Martin, was forced to deny she was in a relationship with Covington after he posted a photograph of them sitting with each other after a training session.

She said they were “just friends” and insisted “I already have a boyfriend” after UFC fans read into this picture.

But she is well and truly distancing herself from Covington after his latest remark.

“I have never given room for any kind of comment or judgment about my personal life,” Viana wrote on Twitter, according to reports.

“But it is not for me to judge the person’s attitude. I feel sorry for those who act so low to try to promote themselves. It is revolting.”

Again, the UFC is yet to comment.
