UFC signs Japanese female MMA star Rin Nakai to fight Miesha Tate

A JAPANESE female MMA fighter works out topless, likes to cover herself in strawberries and cream — and will become the first UFC fighter to compete in a prom dress.

New UFC fighter's bizarre antics

THE UFC’s latest signing likes to work out topless, cover herself in strawberries and cream and will walk to the Octagon wearing a prom dress.

It’s little wonder that UFC president Dana White describes Japanese bantamweight (61.2kg) brawler Rin Nakai as “very interesting”.

Nakai, who’ll take on former Strikeforce women’s champion Miesha Tate at a UFC Fight Night: Hunt vs Nelson in Japan in late September, is undefeated (16-0-1) in 17 professional fights.

But it’s her bizarre behaviour outside the Octagon that has the fans talking.

White told bemused reporters at UFC 175 that Nakai’s managers had called with a unique wardrobe request.

“They called me and said, ‘she wants to wear a prom dress, are you okay with that?’,” White said.

“As long as everybody is legit and has legit records and they fight, they can wear prom dresses or wedding dresses — I don’t care what they do.”

Nakai has built up a cult following for the YouTube videos she produced while fighting under the Pancrase banner.

The videos, described as “muscle fetish”, feature the 27-year-old performing mundane tasks, such as cooking, while wearing lingerie.

Thankfully, the UFC seems more interested in the sporting headlines Nakai can potentially create.

“She (Nakai) is very quiet, but I’m looking forward to it, it’s going to be an awesome fight with Miesha,” White said.

Tate (14-5) is coming off after a hard-earned unanimous decision victory over fellow former title challenger Liz Carmouche in April.

Australian Mark Hunt will headline the card in a heavyweight showdown with Roy Nelson.
