UFC heavyweight gun Francis Ngannou confirmed for UFC 220 title fight

THE most terrifying UFC star in recent memory has sealed the biggest fight in of career days after fighters declared “he can no longer fight humans”.

TERRIFYING MMA powerhouse Francis Ngannou took UFC 218 by storm in his pay-per-view debut with a jaw-shattering uppercut to KO heavyweight great Alistair Overeem.

The UFC world was in awe of the 31-year-old’s brutal power after clocking Overeem, one of the most well-rounded heavyweights in the competition, on the chin to send him to the canvas like a rag doll.

Commentator Joe Rogan said the main card fight was “like a scene from a movie” as UFC stars around the globe tweeted about the blockbuster finish.

“I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a human’s head snap back like that,” featherweight Dennis Bermudez tweeted.

“Scary, scary power,” added former lightweight contender Kenny Florian. “Nobody at heavyweight wants to get hit by that cinder block fist.” Flyweight Ray Borg feared for the entire roster. “That’s it, Ngannou can no longer fight humans,” he said. “It’s not fair and someone might die.”

Fans of the Cameroon-born star, who has an inspiring rags-to riches story, only need to wait a few more weeks to see him back in the Octagon — and this time the stakes are as high as they can get.

Ngannou has been confirmed to fight heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 220 on January 20 next year.

Terrifying.

Ngannou has won all six of his fights in the UFC by stoppage, but Miocic has a five-fight

streak of his own — including a run of four first round finishes against Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum, Overeem and Junior dos Santos.

“Now they’ve got a star,” Joe Rogan said after the weekend’s madness. “I think Ngannou, one or two more fights, you’re going to be looking at Mike Tyson days. That’s what I think. You’re going to watch fights just to see how long these mother(expletives) can survive against this guy. That’s what I think. That could be their big, breakout star.”

Meanwhile, interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has found himself in a UFC mess after an illness relegating champion Georges St-Pierre to the sidelines put a hole in the Aussie’s plans.

Middleweight fighter Luke Rockhold doubted St-Pierre would ever defend his new title, and took aim at the confusion surrounding the middleweight title.

“Where’s the clarity in the division?” he said on MMA Hour this week.

“I did say that if he (GSP) did win, he wouldn’t fight any one of us and we’d just be more tangled up.

“(He’s) backtracking on all these other levels. It’s clear as day, he’s not fighting. He’s not fighting any of us. He’s too small. Guys like me will feast on Georges. He won’t last here.

“He had his opportunity, he got his belt, good for you. Move along. Let us handle our business here. I’m ready to fight somebody that makes sense and right now nothing makes sense.”
