DAN Kelly has vowed to deliver a better performance in his next UFC match up after recording the second victory of his career today.
Kelly, a four-time judo Olympian, scored a unanimous points decision victory over American Patrick Walsh in their UFC Fight Night bout in Broomfield, Colorado, this afternoon.
But Kelly was critical of his performance, which drew the jeers of the crowd at the 1stBank Center.
“I’m happy with a win, but I’m not happy about my performance,” Kelly said post-fight.
“Fans that know me, know that’s not typically my style of fight.
“Patrick was a tough one and I knew I had to avoid the clinch. I was trying to move and hit him, move and hit him.”
Melburnian Kelly won the fight on all three scorecards, with Ben Ramirez and Glenn Trowbridge scoring the bout 29-28 and Tony Weeks 30-27.
“This is only my second decision,” Kelly said.
“I heard the boos and I want all the fans to be happy. I learned a lot from this by having the extended time in the Octagon and gaining some experience there. My next performance will definitely be better.”
Kelly, who made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 55 and scored a first-round submission of Luke Zachrich, improved his record to 2-0.
Walsh, who entered the fight five pounds overweight, is now 1-1 in the UFC octagon.
