UFC Fight Night Adelaide: Mark Hunt makes weight, ready to fight ‘King Kong’
AUSTRALIA’S adopted heavyweight, Mark Hunt, has promised to knockout American wrestler Stipe Miocic — or King Kong — at UFC Fight Night Adelaide.
HE shed more than 5kg in just a couple of days.
And Mark Hunt was relieved when he stepped away from the scales at the UFC Fight Night Adelaide weigh-ins on Saturday.
“I’m hungry,” the quietly spoken Hunt told the 500-strong crowd at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre.
“I’m still cutting weight,” he jokingly added.
Hunt was 125kg during the week but shed enough pounds to weigh in at 120kg (266 pounds).
The Super Samoan’s opponent in the main event, Stipe Miocic, tipped the scales at a trimmer 110kg (243 pounds).
Moments after an intense face off, the fighters were whisked away to prepare for Sunday’s bout.
It’s brawler versus wrestler and the 32-year-old American poses a major threat.
But Hunt is having none of it.
“I don’t give a rats if he’s King Kong or whatever, I’m just going to knock him out,” Hunt told News Corp earlier this week.
“I don’t really worry about what he’s got or what anyone else has got. I don’t care, I’m just interested in what I have and what I can bring to the table.”
Alistair Overeem, the No. 8 ranked UFC heavyweight in the world, believes Hunt (No. 5) will down the (No. 4) ranked Miocic.
“I’m rooting for Hunt,” Overeem said during and Q & A with fellow UFC stars Jessica Eye and Michael Chiesa.
“But Stipe has (good) takedowns. If he gets top position and the takedown Hunt might be in trouble.”
The Hunt-Miocic bout has title implications, with the winner set to position himself for a shot against interim champion Fabricio Werdum.
And Overeem is happy to fight either of them.
“I don’t really care,” Overeem said.
“At my level you should be ready for any of them.”
