UFC 272: UFC villain Colby Covington’s classless call out after grudge match win
Colby Covington absolutely dominated his bitter grudge match against Jorge Masvidal but won himself no new fans with his post-fight antics.
The UFC’s most bitter rivalry has been decided but is far from over after Colby Covington claimed a unanimous 49-46, 50-44 and 50-45 win.
The former best friends have been jawing for months in the lead up to the fight and the bad blood was clear as both men came into the fight with a ferocious look in their eyes.
Asked if they wanted to touch gloves, neither man went close to moving as security filled the octagon.

Masvidal had the first move, going for a jumping front kick, but it missed as both men wanted to land a killer blow.
But Covington settled quickly to use his superior wrestling skill to defeat Masvidal comfortably on points.
Apart from a fourth round punch which rocked Covington to his knees, it was a clinical performance from the welterweight star.
Commentator Joe Rogan also lost a $20 bet that the pair would hug after the fight, when Covington had to be pushed off Masvidal at the end of the final round, then blew him a kiss before grabbing his crotch.
Covington was asked in the ring about his performance and the grudge match but Covington ignored the question, calling out second ranked lightweight Dustin Poirier.
“I just took care of Miami street trash, now it’s time to take care of Louisiana swamp trash,” he said. “Where you at Dustin Poirier you cu*k.
“You said it’s on site, name the site Dustin. Bring that jezebel of a wife and that little kid that’s Conor’s kid. You’re next.”
Covington then walked away from the mic and out of the ring.
After Conor McGregor’s second fight with Poirier was slammed for the Irishman’s personal attacks on Poirier and his family, Twitter was quick to slam Covington's attack on the lightweight.
Covington calling out a lightweight in Poirier is...interesting. Even if they have beef, still strange. I guess he's stirring up whatever he can since another title shot isn't realistic. #UFC272

Hearing an announcer say "like him or hate him you have to respect him" then 10 minutes later he takes a run at somebody's kid.

Colby Covington calls out Dustin Poirier â and takes a shot at Dustin's kid â for a fight that definitely isn't going to happen. #UFC272

Poirier also took to Twitter, writing: “Maybez fight a welterweight contender?”
But it was Covington that had a huge first round as he claimed the top position for most of the first round and worked hard to earn a submission, although Masvidal fought it off and then got back to his feet.
The takedown came after an eye poke however, which was missed by referee Herb Dean but corrected after watching a replay at the end of the first, earning Covington a warning.
Covington has long revelled in being a heel in the UFC and landed a low blow, with a knee to Masivdal’s groin after the pair clinched in the second round.
There is absolutely no love lost between these men.
Of the low blow, SevereMMA’s Sean Sheeham said: “That was definitely on purpose”.
Fansided MMA’s Amy Kaplan tweeted: “First an eye poke, now a low blow”.
Idaho Statesmen’s Ron Counts added: “Eye pokes and low blows seem to be common in Covington fights”.
Round three was all Covington as he took Masvidal down fairly easily and controlled much of action.
Round four was Masvidal’s best of the fight as he landed a monster right hand Joe Rogan called “the perfect punch”, which rocked Covington.
But after defending for so long, Masvidal was gassed and couldn’t press his advantage.
And the fifth round was much the same as Covington controlled the wrestle on the ground and didn’t let Masvidal get any kind of punch.
Star’s ‘relentless violence’ floors UFC
Kevin Holland has bounced back from a two losses and a draw to claim a monster TKO against Alex Olievera on the main card of UFC 272.
It’s been a brutal main card so far after Sergei Spivac knocked Greg Hardy into last week in the first round, a popular KO due to Hardy’s controversial NFL exit due to domestic violence charges.
But Holland and Oliveira put on a show in their bout.
Oliveira finished the first round trying to submit Holland but the 29-year-old shrugged it off, giving a thumbs up to the crowd as the bell rang.
His corner told him he looked a bit sluggish and he responded straight away, ending the fight 38 seconds into the second round.
After a left fake, Holland unloaded a crushing right before grounding and pounding his way to the win as Oliveira could do nothing but cover his face.
It was a hell of a fight and fans were blown away by the result.
What a finish from Holland. Man. I continue to be impressed by this guy.

’I want to cry’: Speech wins over UFC
The first and only Ukrainian woman on the UFC roster Maryna Moroz has claimed a huge second round submission win on the undercard of UFC 272..
Moroz was dominant as she claimed several takedowns against a bitter rival.
But Moroz, who grabbed a Ukrainian flag after the result, took the microphone from commentator Joe Rogan’s hands to deliver a message.
She thanked her sponsors, her opponent and her team before breaking down while talking about her country, which was invaded by Russia last week.
“My family is in Ukraine, I have had tough week, I worry, I cry, because my family are now in a bad situation,” she said. “Thank you for everyone for message me and support me because week was hard for me. I want to cry because of this war in my country. Thank you everyone.””
She also added: “Heroiam slava!”which means “Glory to Ukraine.”
Incredible performance from Moroz, especially considering the situation in her homeland of Ukraine.

Went in as the underdog, fought her heart out and got the win in dominant fashion.
Thatâs what itâs all about. Love it.
I think we all are. Maryna Moroz showed the strength of Ukraineâs entire population tonight. We are all praying for you. https://t.co/SKt2yK9YoL

The decision to hand Maryna Moroz the microphone was an excellent one. Heavy stuff. #UFC272
— Jay Pettry (@jaypettry) March 6, 2022
Speaking later, Moroz added: “I think my mother right now now is nervous. And I’m nervous about my mother. I don’t want Russian people to come and kill my family because many of my friends are dying right now. They call me ‘he died, Russian army killed him’. And I feel terrible.
“I see every day and somebody come and kill my family? I don’t want. I want people to listen, stop this, because I want to save my family.”

UFC hotheads trade ugly trash talk
Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal headline today’s UFC 272 card in Las Vegas.
The pair have traded plenty of trash talk in the lead-up to their welterweight grudge match, which has been years in the making.
“I’m sending him to the electric chair,” Covington said at the weigh-in. “I’m gonna flip the switch, fry his bum a** and electrify the T-Mobile Arena like it’s never been electrified before.”
Masvidal was also willing to throw some barbs his opponent’s way and is confident of coming out on top.
“This guy is a b***h and I can’t wait to prove it,” he said. “Hey, Colby, keep selling that pay-per-view. Sell that pay-per-view, boy.
“You talk all that s*** so they (UFC fans) can buy that pay-per-view, b***h, which you ain’t getting none of.”
