‘That’s cute but we’re doing man things’
IN AN incredible spray, a UFC star has hit out at Ronda Rousey’s achievements as a woman in the world’s most brutal sport.
IN AN incredible spray, UFC star Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall has played down Ronda Rousey’s achievements in the Octagon.
Rousey made headlines around the world last week after dramatically defending her 135-pound title at UFC 184 in just 14 seconds with an acrobatic armbar against Cat Zingano.
Rousey has stopped every opponent she has faced in her meteoric mixed martial arts career, so a first-round victory is no shock for the bantamweight champion.
Except nobody had finished a UFC title fight this quickly, and hardly anyone had ever done it with so much flair.
The victory led UFC analyst Joe Rogan to suggest Rousey would be able to defeat half of her male colleagues in the bantamweight division.
Rousey didn’t disagree.
But McCall did. Big time.
“They say all these comparisons to her fighting men ... I’m sorry, it’s not going to happen,” McCall said in an interview, which you can see below.
“I come from wrestling. Before there was a big female scene in wrestling, they would wrestle men. And it’s not going to happen. A good man will not lose to Ronda Rousey.
“It’s not going to happen. I will throw you on your head. Pretty simple. And, you weigh more than me.”
But McCall’s most cutting comment came as he demeaned Rousey’s incredible accomplishments and what she had done for women’s sport in general.
“She’s the best woman on the planet. That’s cute. Cool. Well, you know, we’re doing men things,” he continued.
“Ronda’s definitely not the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world.”
UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub was firmly in the Rousey camp.
“I like Ian. He’d be surprised,” Schaub said.
“I’ve seen her rag-doll bigger, very skilled fighters. MMA, professional fighters. I’ve seen her destroy men. Fighters who were way bigger than him.
“She could definitely beat some of the 135ers in the UFC.”
