Speculation that the UFC will try and bring back Brock Lesnar for first ever New York event
THE UFC is eyeing off a major milestone after a New York politician was arrested for corruption. But can they pull off what could be the biggest fight ever?
FOR nearly two decades, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has been banned from New York.
Until now, one politician has stood in the way of the sporting giant holding events in one of the world’s biggest markets.
But his downfall on corruption allegations has paved the way for the UFC to enter the state — and apparently they’ve got big plans.
Former New York assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, who has actively campaigned to ban mixed martial arts was indicted last month on charges of fraud and extortion.
As some UFC fans rejoiced at the removal of one of the sport’s biggest opponents, the conversation has now turned to when the ban will be overturned. And more importantly, what the company has planned for a potentially historic maiden event in the big apple.
How does the return of Brock Lesnar sound?
Last weekend the former heavyweight champion appeared at UFC 184 after walking out on contract negotiations with pro wrestling company, the WWE.
In the wake of his highly publicised meet with UFC boss Dana White, there are early whispers that the mixed martial arts giant will look to arrange Brock Lesnar versus Frank Mir, later in the year.
Reports in Bloodyelbow.com have stirred speculation that the stars could align, allowing the two men to square off for the very first time in New York.
At the moment nothing has been confirmed and the UFC still has to rely on the passage of legislation and the successful courtship of Lesnar.
But speculation is only going to intensify.
The pair have split their first two meetings with the latter being the highest selling pay per view in UFC history.
Provided that a few things fall in place for the UFC, that record might well be in jeopardy if the pair meet for a third time.
