Ronda Rousey reckons a $100 million UFC contract would be awesome

RONDA Rousey is the biggest fight star on the planet, but she’s happy to extend an invite to the one fighter that can join her in UFC’s mega-bucks party.

IN today’s UFC there are two stars shining brighter than the rest – Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor.

McGregor calls them the king and queen of the sport but who is the top earner?

Rousey made headlines in September when she told talk show host Ellen she was the highest paid fighter in the UFC.

McGregor followed that by claiming he was negotiating a new contract which would blow any other fighter’s deal out of the water.

“Let’s compare contracts because the contract that I’m talking now is nine figures, nine figures I’m talking. Nobody in the game has talked nine figures,” McGregor said.

No surprise Conor McGregor is so excited.

“That’s $100 million plus. That’s my contract, so, that’s where I’m at and I’ve done it the way I’ve done it. Either learn from it or don’t.”

Rousey was asked by news.com.au about McGregor’s statement during UFC Media Day at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne on Friday. She said she hoped McGregor signed a deal of that magnitude.

“I hope he sets the bar that high, that’d be awesome. I’m not quite there yet. But that would be nice,” Rousey said.

Asked if it was important to her to remain the highest paid star in mixed martial arts, she said: “It’s important for me just to do what I love for a living, really.”

Ronda Rousey doesn’t really seem to mind.

“I was really only happy to say I was the highest paid fighter in the UFC because it was the first time a woman has been the highest paid athlete in a professional sport,” Rousey added.

“I was just proud of that. Now that it’s been done I really don’t care. I’m happy with how much I make and my lifestyle. My house is paid off, my car is paid off. I’ve just got to pay for taxes and dog food. I could retire right now and chill out if I wanted to. I’m not really a putting on python skin and rolling around in a Ferrari type.”

Rousey showcased her down-to-earth nature when asked how she would treat herself after defeating Holly Holm at UFC 193 on Sunday.

“I want to put vertical gardens on my walls because I don’t have many plants,” she said. “I order grass to come in so my dog can pee on it but I want to get some vertical gardens. I don’t think they’re that expensive – but that’s what I want.”
