The popular podcaster has exploded over an Aussie robbery in a recent live show - with vision of the moment now going viral.

Australian UFC star Alexander Volkanovski was on the brink of history in his lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev in UFC 284 on Sunday, but it was not to be, with the 34-year-old going down by unanimous decision.

The call has sparked huge backlash on social media, with podcaster and colour commentator Joe Rogan declaring Volkanovski was “robbed” during a live podcast of the fight card in Perth.

“Volkanovski is the f*****g double champ, 100 per cent,” Rogan shouted on his Spotify live-stream, in vision you can watch above.

“That’s insane,” said his co-hosts.

Volkanovski was outmatched size-wise, but held his own to keep himself in the contest, forcing his way out of chokeholds and at one point in the first round laughing as he had Makhachev on his back.

Makhachev played to his strengths, taking Volkanovski down and spending much of the fight with him pinned on the canvas next to the fence.

Despite this, Volkanovski stormed home in the fifth round, securing a take-down and punishing Makhachev with some classic ground and pound, but it wasn’t enough in the end for the Australian.

Volkanovski was vying to become just the fifth fighter ever to hold two belts simultaneously, with the loss sparking huge backlash on social media.

UFC legend Nate Diaz tweeted “Islam got his ass whooped,” while ESPN’s Laurie Horesh called it “laughable.”

Volkanovski even claimed in the post-match interview that Makhachev wanted a rematch, such was the performance of the underdog Australian.

“I’m hearing (Makhachev) was saying - and I could be wrong - but he was going back to his corner saying he wants a rematch because he thinks he lost,” said Volkanovski.

“That’s funny.

“And I’ll jump on that.

“Rematch.”

Volkanovski tweeted afterwards that he thought he definitely “won 2, 3 and 5.”

“Surprised I didn’t get my hand raised,” Volkanovski said.

“So I definitely want the fight back,” he continued.

“I want that f…ing lightweight belt.

“Everyone wanted to pushing this crazy f…ing narrative that Islam’s invincible. I thought, ‘OK run with it’.

“It just would’ve been so much a better story if I won, right?

“I wish I could sit here saying ‘hey, the invincible man, I told you’.

“But I’m not in that position.

“It was close.

“Very winnable.”

So about Round 6 then, and that rematch?

Unfortunately, Makhachev eventually fronted the press and strangled that one like so many of his opponents.

“This is not true,” he deadpanned about that comment.

“Minimum I won three rounds. I don’t lose.”

So what would it take for you to fight ‘The Great’ again then?

“I never choose opponent,” he said. “When Dana call me I’ll be ready.”
