Highlights from UFC Orlando; Fighter’s savage sledge; ‘Scariest finish ever seen’
A SAVAGE knockout left fans queasy at UFC Orlando, but one star’s disgusting tweet which “crossed the line” was still the filthiest moment of the night by far.
UFC star Mike Perry had a day to forget as he battled through his bout with Max Griffin at UFC Orlando on Sunday (AEDT).
The welterweight brawler already made headlines the day before after attempting to pull his opponent’s pants down at their weigh-in. But come fight night, the 32-year-old Griffin showed the younger star who was boss.
Perry copped a beating in the first round and needed to pull off something special to come away from the fight night with a win. Midway through the second round, Fox Sports cameras shot to Perry’s corner as his girlfriend and trainer Danielle Nickerson screamed advice from the sidelines.
“Kick the knee! Break that leg!” Nickerson yelled.
The words of encouragement, while not necessarily bad advice, weren’t enough for the 26-year-old to pick up his game as he lost the welterweight contest via decision (29-27, 29-27, 30-27).
Some fans took distate to Nickerson’s loud, “incoherent” commands during the fight, but it was a filthy tweet from UFC welterweight Colby Covington which really left fans disgusted.
Covington lashed Perry’s decision to have his girlfriend, a professional tennis player, as his coach before getting personal.
“Hey @PlatinumPerry, maybe having your ratchet horse faced girlfriend as your head trainer isn’t the smartest idea on planet earth. But hey, when you’re the product of cousins f**ing in Ocala (Florida) how strong can your decision making skills be?” he tweeted.
Covington had the MMA community on his back with fighters such as Kevin “Cub” Swanson and Anthony Smith taking him to task.
Not a fan of this or you Colby. Please learn a little class man.

Iâm all for trash talk and gaining attention..this crosses the line in my opinion.

LATIFI’S DOWNRIGHT SAVAGE KO
ILIR Latifi had fans in a state after channeling light heavyweight icon Jon Jones with a savage standing submission to take a main card win over Ovince Saint Preux.
The Swedish star left Saint Preux cold after chocking him in a standing guillotine in the first round, sending fans ballistic at the UFC’s new “slayer of the gods”.
Latifi left a message for champion Daniel Cormier, who was sitting on the sidelines, after the fight.
Latifi pointed at the light heavyweight king before picking up the mic.
“You know I have a lot of respect for you, but let’s fight for the title, you and me. Light heavyweight or heavyweight, I’m up for it. Big respect, you’re a legend.”
Ilir Latifi said he'll fight Daniel Cormier at whatever weight class he wants, it's all respect! What should DC do? #UFCOrlando pic.twitter.com/3whIX3Z7eC

Replay shows that OSP even tapped right before going out, but it was opposite the side the referee was standing. Didn't see it. Man, just ruthless stuff from Latifi. #UFCOrlando
