Conor McGregor made a touching family announcement at UFC 205

CONOR McGregor promotes himself as a macho icon, but he admitted there’s one impending event that has him more scared than ever.

McGregor eventually did make an announcement.

WE WERE waiting for an announcement, then it looked like Conor McGregor trolled us all.

Before his fight against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York on Sunday (AEST), the newest UFC lightweight champion had us all thinking he had something important to tell us after the bout.

Turned out, it wasn’t so important after all.

“Listen, I’ve spent a lot of time slaying everyone in the company,” McGregor said. “Backstage I’m starting fights with everybody. I’ve ridiculed everyone on the roster. And I just want to say, from the bottom of me heart, I just want to take this chance to apologise … to absolutely nobody! The double champ does whatever the f*** he wants!”

We thought we’d been played, but once the emotions had settled, we found out the Irishman did in fact have something he wanted to share with the UFC world.

Speaking in the post-fight press conference, “The Notorious” revealed there’d soon be one more McGregor in the world.

“There’s a few bombshells I wanted to hit, then it was like, ‘Will I do it, will I not do it?’” he said.

“One announcement is I’m going to be a daddy next year.”

McGregor was too strong for Eddie Alvarez.

While McGregor loves the spotlight, he doesn’t want to see the glow of stardom hover over his family when his little one is born.

“I don’t want no little celebrity child, I hate that. I don’t want my family to be like that.”

March, the baby was due, he claimed when he was asked about the impending arrival. Or was it May? In a funny exchange, he had to be corrected that in fact he might be meeting his offspring a little later than first thought.

And while he’s not scared of anyone in the Octagon, if there’s one thing that frightens McGregor, it’s the prospect of being a father.

“March. May is it? What the f***.

“I am running from it. I am crapping my jocks at the whole thing. I don’t know what to do with myself.”

Something tells us there’ll be plenty of kids going out of their way to get in his son’s good books in the schoolyard.
