Viral US Open beer chugger Megan Lucky snubbed by camera crew

An American tennis fan who took social media by storm with her beer drinking antics at the US Open was shunned this time around.

US Open cult figure returns to wow crowd

US Open beer girl Megan Lucky was back at the famed tennis tournament in New York, but apparently wasn’t given the screen time that she had been in years past.

Ms Lucky claimed in an Instagram post on Sunday that “whoever was in charge didn’t want me on the jumbotron this year”.

Ms Lucky has gained internet fame the past two years for her beer-chugging skills that went viral during the 2021 and 2022 US Open tournaments, the NY Post reports.

The 27-year-old New Jersey native attended the Open on Friday, according to her social media.

However, she never made it onto the video board this time around.

“I don’t know their reasons, they didn’t share them with me, but I still had a lot of fun and I’m at peace with it,” Ms Lucky said in the video.

“I know the universe has a plan for me and like I said last time, beer girl is a part of me and maybe I’ll take her to another sport that wants her fun-loving energy soon, so look out for that.

“But as for now, this is not the end, it is only the beginning of a new era.”

Ms Lucky had risen to fame when she was captured guzzling her Heineken on the Jumbotron during the tournament in 2021.

Tennis has a typically button-up persona and the non-traditional behaviour quickly made its rounds on social media and even onto TV network ESPN.

She returned the following year where she was once again put on the video board and chugged another beer, with the US Open even posting about it on social media.

Ms Lucky had told The Post in August she had planned to return for a third consecutive year and posted early last week that beer girl would indeed make her way to Queens.

Ms Lucky had been able to parlay some of her notoriety into some work – she told The Post she partnered with several alcohol brands including Truly – but is looking to grow her personal brand more.

“I still haven’t been able to truly monetise. So I’m starting to post more on my socials,” she said in an interview last month.
