FORMER world No.2 Vera Zvonareva is the star attraction in the women’s field for the City of Playford Tennis International.
The Russian right-hander will be joined by 13 of the world’s top 200 females players for the inaugural ITF Futures event at the Playford Tennis Centre from December 30-January 7.
Zvonareva, now ranked No.203, has returned to the court following a two-year injury hiatus during which she got married and had her first child.
The 33-year-old will look to rediscover the form that made her a Wimbledon and US Open singles finalist and a four-time Grand Slam doubles champion.
British player Laura Robson will continue her comeback at Playford, four years after reaching a career-high ranking of 27.
Australian-born Robson, 23, won an ITF title in Kurume, Japan, in May, as she stepped up her return to action after a serious wrist injury.
China’s Lin Zhu (114), Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann (139) and Russia’s Anna Kalinskaya (161) are the highest-ranked players confirmed for the $25,000 tournament.
The event includes a $75,000 men’s ATP Challenger competition featuring world No.65 Daniil Medvedev. Spectator entry is free.
