Two charged after allegedly robbing tennis star Margaret Court

Two men have been arrested after allegedly breaking into the home of one of Australia’s biggest and most controversial tennis stars.

Two people have been charged after medals and awards were stolen from a former world No.1 tennis star and conservative Christian minster.

At about 8pm on January 26, the West Australia home of controversial sporting legend Margaret Court was broken into.

The thieves allegedly broke in through the front door and rummaged through the property.

They allegedly stole “a number of items” such as awards, jewellery and medals from Ms Court’s tennis career.

Police said a number of items had since been recovered in nearby bushlands and gardens.

Perth detectives have since charged two men in relation to the incident.

A 33-year-old Edgewater man was charged with one count of aggravated home burglary and one count of stealing.

He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on February 13.

A 34-year-old Edgewater man was charged with one count of aggravated home burglary and one count of stealing.

He was also charged with burglary and stealing in relation to a separate incident and is due to appear in court on February 10.

Court is considered one of the sport’s all-time greats, having won 24 major singles titles and a phenomenal 64 major titles in total.

She retired from tennis in 1977.

The 80-year-old has since made headlines for her views on same-sex marriage, previously describing gay marriage as a “trend”. Her stance has put her off-side with openly gay players and there have been calls for Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne to be renamed.
