The wannabe comedian who disrupted an Australian Open match

THE guy who interrupted the Nick Kyrgios match at the Australian Open has spoken. And he’s quite happy with himself.

THE disruptive crowd member who brought an Australian Open match to a halt was a YouTube “comedian” acting on a dare.

Sydney man Jamie Zhu, who describes himself online as an “Australian social media entertainer from Sydney” and has more than 100,000 subscribers on YouTube, has bragged about being evicted from Hisense Arena during Nick Kyrgios’s second round match.

The unruly fan attracted boos from the crowd and has been all but branded a national disgrace for filming himself while calling out nonsensical sounds as the 22-year-old tennis star was winding up for his serve.

But according to posts on Zhu’s social media channels, the wannabe entertainer was pretty pleased with his performance.

“You guys might’ve just seen me on TV and I’ve just been evicted, and I think that was the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” he said on Instagram after the incident.

Zhu had hinted at a prank moments before the match, telling his followers he had just thought of a video idea that was “pretty f***ing next level”.

“I can’t tell you guys what it is, but you’ll kind of see,” he said.

After posting vision of him shouting during the match with Kyrgios glaring at him from the court before security guards dragged Zhu from the stand, he revealed the act had been a dare, and that the bizarre screech the wannabe comedian let out was apparently a “sex noise”.

“Shoutout to this legend for daring me to do this,” he wrote, sharing a screenshot of a message.

“You wouldn’t go to the Australian open inside a live match and make sex noises in the crowd. you won’t,” a follower had written to Zhu.

After the prank the same man wrote: “Brooo OMG I can’t believe you actually did it HAHAHA my f***in boy!!!”

Though Zhu was clearly chuffed with his “prank”, not all his followers are on the same page.

Among the thousands of comments on his Facebook post about the incident were people slamming him for the “immature” prank.

“Some of your vids are good ... this one is s***. You deserved a slapping for trying to get fanboy 14-year-olds for stunts like this,” one wrote.

“Sorry but I really think this is really childish, this is an international sports event, not your own stage of your show,” wrote another.

Zhu didn’t seem to regret upsetting Kyrgios either, writing: “Soz not soz Nick Kyrgios, I still love you.”

The Australian Open prank is not the first time Zhu has purposely made a fool of himself in public.

His YouTube channel and Facebook page feature dozens of videos including ones titled “Waxing my armpits in public”, “Throwing eggs in public” and “Touching strangers’ legs”.

One video titled “Public dare challenge” sees Zhu and some fellow pranksters dressed in nappies walking through a Melbourne mall and singing Christmas carols, another shows him making a mess in a book store by jumping onto a display shirtless and wearing a G-string.

Zhu’s performance at the Australian Open was described as “sub-optimal” by commentator and American tennis great Jim Courier.

Apart from Zhu being ejected the match was plagued by other distractions such as a hovering helicopter and problems with the PA system which saw the umpire’s microphone shut down as well as all audio on the court including music.

“It was tough, there was a lot of stuff going on out there, had a helicopter above us for three games and the (umpire) microphone wasn’t working for pretty much the whole match,” Kyrgios said.

With Hisense lacking the usual upbeat vibe that Kyrgios thrives on, he said he felt like he was playing at a different tournament.

“I felt like the atmosphere completely changed,” Kyrgios said. “When you’ve got the microphones working, the music and stuff kind of puts you in a rhythm every game and I kind of lost my rhythm a little bit.”
